In Haitian Vodóun, practitioners commit to serving spirits known as the loa (lwa).
Of these spirits, Bondyé is considered the top God. Bondyé is said to be a Deus Otiosus – that is, a creator who creates and then retires from its creation forever.
It is said that the loa possess the ability to communicate directly with Bondyé.
ㅤㅤIn Haitian Vodóun, spirit means "Lwa"— while Vodóun means spirit in the Fon language. Vodóun practitioners believe in what is called Erzulie ["Great Mother"]. She is the Goddess of Fertility.
ㅤㅤDamballah is considered the father figure of Vodóun, and the being known as Papa Legba ["The Guardian"], is known as the spirit of the crossroads between the physical world and the invisible world.
