The most common assumption is that all Satanists
are atheists. This belief comes from the common misunderstanding that the
largest Satanic group, who happens to be atheistic, represents the whole of
Satanism.
That could not be more wrong. Similar to how all
theists are not Christians, not all Satanists are atheists.
ATHEISTIC SATANISTS
LaVeyan Satanism is typically the go-to example
for people who have heard of Satanism. LaVeyan Satanism is the largest Satanic
denomination out there; but it is not the only one. LaVeyan Satanism is
atheistic since its founder Anton LaVey was also a hard atheist who rejected
the Abrahamic God, and was vested in helping humanity to cater to their carnal
natures; bringing about enlightenment to all from a logical perspective. Newer
subsects of LaVeyan Satanists commonly practice magic to provide practitioners
with meaning and non-ritualistic experiences.
The Satanic Temple (TST) is also an atheistic
Satanic organization. TST is a non-theistic religious and political activist
group rejecting all gods and supernatural beliefs. They are recognized as a
church and subject to tax exemptions, with Temples in more than 13 states and
Canada.
THEISTIC SATANISTS
In Theistic Satanism, belief in the biblical
character "Satan" is the foundation of this sect. Theistic Satanists
place literal belief in this supernatural legend, declaring Satan the first son
of YHWH before Yeshua or Jesus.
Luciferians are Satanists who see
"Lucifer" as the "lightbearer" or informant who disobeyed
the Christian god to enlighten humanity to free them from god's veil of
ignorance.
Other Satanic denominations exist, but those
listed are the most common.
What is your perception of the Satanist in
relation to atheism? Do you see all Satanists as being atheists? Why or why
not?
